Imphal, Feb 25: The Manipur government is gearing up to introduce a crucial amendment bill concerning the Goods and Services Tax (GST) during the upcoming assembly session, set to commence on February 28.

This decision was reached during a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and disclosed by state Information and Public Relations Minister Sapam Ranjan.

According to Sapam Ranjan, the proposed bill, titled the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (6th Amendment Bill), 2024, will be presented in the forthcoming assembly session.

Alongside this amendment, discussions on various budget-related matters were held during the cabinet meeting.

These discussions included the presentation of reports from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, as well as revised estimates for the fiscal year 2023-24.

Furthermore, the session is expected to witness the laying out of budget estimates for the fiscal year 2024-25, scheduled to run until March 5.

In addition to the GST amendment, another significant decision emerged from the cabinet meeting.

Sapam Ranjan announced that the cabinet has agreed to propose the implementation of the recommendation of the second National Judicial Pay Commission.

This proposal entails the payment of allowances to the Manipur judicial service, effective from January 1, 2016, in compliance with a Supreme Court order.

Furthermore, the council of ministers has given the green light for the introduction of the Manipur Labour Laws (Exemption from Renewal of Registration and Licence by establishment) Manipur, Bill 2024, during the assembly session.

Addressing infrastructure needs, the cabinet has also approved the direct purchase of 3.77 acres of land for the establishment of an automated testing station in the Imphal East district, showcasing the government’s commitment to enhancing essential facilities in the state.
