Imphal, June 14: The United Naga Council (UNC) in Manipur has banned Congress MP Kho John and two others from public platforms for seven years. The decision, taken during an emergency assembly on June 13, follows a resolution passed on May 29, 2024, in Chamdil, Manipur.

The other two individuals affected are S. Kho John and Allyson Abonmai, who contested as independents in the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency. They ranked third and fourth, respectively, behind Arthur and Kachui Timothy Zimik of the Naga People’s Front (NPF).

According to the UNC, the trio allegedly defied the Council’s stance during the recent Lok Sabha elections, prompting the punitive action. All Naga units have been instructed to implement the resolution immediately.

In a public notification issued on June 13, the UNC stated that the decision was made due to the individuals’ deliberate disregard for the UNC’s position and their attempt to challenge the unity and position of the Naga people.

As per the notification signed by H. James Hau, the UNC’s information and publicity secretary, Kho John, S. Kho John, and Allyson Abonmai are prohibited from participating in public platforms and holding leadership positions within the Naga society for seven years, effective immediately.

Arthur and Zimik are from the Tangkhul community, while Kho John is Poumai and Abonmai is Liangmai.

The UNC has urged all its constituent and associate units, as well as the Naga populace, to uphold and enforce the resolution within their respective jurisdictions.
