Imphal, Feb 09: The fifth session of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly is scheduled to commence on February 28, marking an important milestone in the state’s legislative agenda.

Comprising 60 members directly elected from single-seat constituencies, the assembly plays a pivotal role in shaping Manipur’s legislative landscape.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and party president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) currently holds power in Manipur.

The decision to convene the fifth session by February 28 is under legislative requirements, as the last sitting adjourned sine die on August 29, 2023. Additionally, the session’s commencement allows for the Governor’s address, essential for setting the legislative agenda.

In another significant development, the cabinet approved an increase in allowances for the Manipur Police Commando and other state forces stationed in vulnerable areas.

Effective immediately, the allowance for Manipur Police Commando personnel will witness a substantial rise of Rs 5000. Similarly, state forces deployed in vulnerable areas will receive an increment of Rs 3000 in their allowances.

This decision underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of law enforcement personnel and bolstering security measures in sensitive regions of Manipur.
