Sangma commended Sarma as a practical leader committed to understanding the Northeast region and finding solutions to complex issues.

Despite the complexity of the problem, negotiations are ongoing to accommodate more villages wishing to join Meghalaya, with Sangma pledging to continue discussions with the Assam government for maximum resolution.

During an election rally at Athiabari village, Sangma highlighted the demand from many villages currently on the Assam side of the border to be included in Meghalaya.
