Rourkela, April 12: Sumit Singh, hailing from Odisha’s Rourkela, has etched his name in history by setting a Guinness World Record for running continuously on a treadmill for an astounding 12 hours.

His remarkable feat, achieved on March 12, 2024, saw him cover an impressive distance of 68.04 kilometres, as confirmed by the official Guinness World Records website.

Sumit’s record-breaking attempt took place at the Basant Pathagar premises, where he tirelessly ran from 8:15 am to 8:20 pm.

The certificate awarded by Guinness World Records acknowledges Sumit’s accomplishment as the greatest distance run on a manual treadmill in 12 hours (male).

Beyond the pursuit of a record, Sumit undertook this challenge to raise awareness about mental health and advocate for the importance of staying physically active.

Expressing his joy, Sumit emphasized his mission to inspire individuals, particularly those over the age of 30, to prioritize fitness and mental well-being.

Before this feat, Sumit had already displayed remarkable endurance by running for 12 and 24 hours on the track, covering distances of 102 and 161 kilometres, respectively.

In a previous achievement, he completed an astounding 33 marathons within a month, earning recognition from The International Book of Records.

Looking ahead, Sumit has qualified to represent India in South Africa’s COMRADES race, where he aims to run 86 kilometres within 12 hours.

Residing in Rourkela’s Basanti Colony, Sumit balances his passion for running with his professional commitments at a private firm in Kalunga.

His achievement adds to India’s impressive tally of over 60 Guinness World Records, showcasing the nation’s diverse talents and accomplishments.

Among these records, Rooba Ganesan from Tirupur, Tamil Nadu, set a notable feat in 2023 by holding the eight-angle pose in yoga for an impressive 4 minutes and 35.35 seconds.
