3. Sangma aims for a 10 billion US dollar economy and envisions Meghalaya among the top ten states in per capita GDP and SDG goals attainment by 2032.


Shillong, Feb 21: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma unveiled the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25, revealing a deficit of Rs 2,029 crore, equivalent to approximately 3.83% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).

The budget introduces “Mission 10,” highlighting ten opportunities and guarantees aimed at propelling the state’s growth and development.

Total receipts amount to Rs 27,072 crore, with revenue receipts projected at Rs 23,515 crore and capital receipts at Rs 3,557 crore.

Sangma, who also oversees the Finance department, disclosed that the anticipated total expenditure stands at Rs 25,574 crore, excluding loan repayments amounting to Rs 1,498 crore.

Additionally, interest payments for 2024-25 are estimated at Rs 1,236 crore, and pension payments at Rs 1,865 crore.

Presenting the budget, Sangma emphasized the theme “Mission 10,” envisioning a path to achieve a 10 billion US dollar economy by leveraging ten opportunities and ensuring ten guarantees.

He underscored the target of positioning Meghalaya among the top ten states in per capita GDP and Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) attainment by 2032, terming it ambitious yet achievable.
