Aizawl, Feb 21: The Mizoram NGO Coordination Committee organized a demonstration on February 21, advocating against the implementation of border fencing and the cessation of the Free Movement Regime (FMR).

Led by H. Lalthianghlima, President of Mizo Zirlai Pawl, and Prof. Malsawmliana, Secretary of NGOCC and General Secretary of Central YMA, the event saw active participation from various organizations.

Lalhmachhuana, Chairman of NGOCC and President of Central YMA, delivered a speech, highlighting the committee’s stance against the proposed measures. Ngurmawii, President of MHIP General Headquarters, expressed gratitude for the support.

During the protest, the NGOCC passed a resolution condemning the Government of India’s plan to lift the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and seal the Indo-Myanmar border.

The committee reiterated its strong opposition to these actions, emphasizing the importance of preserving the FMR and halting the border fencing initiative.

Before the demonstration, on February 13, 2024, the NGO Coordination Committee held a meeting at the Central YMA Committee Room. During this gathering, they decided to organize the protest in response to the impending closure of the India-Myanmar border and the discontinuation of the FMR.

Comprising various non-governmental organizations such as the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA), Mizo Students’ Union, Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), MHIP (Mizo Women’s Front), and MUP (Mizo Elders Association), the NGO Coordination Committee represents a unified voice against these proposed measures.
