Shillong, Sep 22: The third edition of the Sohra International Half Marathon attracted an impressive 7,200 participants from across the globe.
Organized by the Meghalaya government in collaboration with local sports associations, the event featured races in 21K, 10K, and 5K categories.
In the men’s 21K elite category, Akshay Kumar claimed victory with a remarkable time of 1:03:00, followed closely by Lovepreet Singh (1:03:19) and Kailash Chaudhary (1:05:00).
Ankita Ben Gavit won the women’s 21K elite race, finishing in 1:14:04, with Tamsi Singh trailing just eight seconds behind. Nisha secured third place with a time of 1:21:59.
Local talent also shone in the 21K category. Kresstarjune Pathaw led the Meghalayan men’s field, finishing in 1:05:21, while Emphius Nongrum (1:09:26) and Teiboklang Biam (1:09:54) followed.

Among Meghalayan women, Phyrnai Kyndait topped the leaderboard at 1:29:37, with Bandasharai Marwei and Filinza Hansepi completing the podium at 1:32:50 and 1:33:55, respectively.
The marathon saw strong community involvement, with over 2,000 Sohra residents participating and volunteering to support the event.
State officials, including Revenue and Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla and local MLAs, were present to back the initiative, which aims to promote health, fitness, and tourism in Meghalaya.
