Modi Mizoram

Aizawl, Oct 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has cancelled his programme to campaign for the BJP candidate former Mizoram Assembly Speaker Lalrinliana Sailo in Mizoram-Tripura-Bangladesh border Mamit assembly constituency on Monday, a senior state government official said.

The official said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will come and campaign for Sailo in the Mamit seat, while the exact date is yet to be ascertained. Sailo resigned as Assembly Speaker and legislator recently and joined the saffron party after he was denied a ticket by the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF).

“We only know that Shah will come to Mamit constituency on behalf of Modi, but do not know the date,” the official said, adding that the Union Home Minister will use the Indian Air Force (IAF)’s B-17 helicopter as planned by the PM earlier.

Mamit helipad landing pad, 15 metres in diameter, was already extended by 30 metres diametre by the state Public Works Department (PWD) to facilitate the landing of the B-17 helicopter, much larger than the Pawan Hans chopper being in service to ensure connectivity of all the districts of the state.

The Union Home Minister is scheduled to return from Mamit directly by the same helicopter without halting in Aizawl.
