Aizawl, Oct 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President, Jagat Prakash Nadda, unveiled the party’s manifesto for the upcoming elections in Mizoram.

During a ceremony held at the party’s state headquarters in Aizawl, Nadda presented the manifesto, outlining the party’s vision for the state. The event was attended by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton, and other party officials.

Jagat Prakash Nadda announced the formation of a special investigation team (SIT) to scrutinize the implementation of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF) flagship program – Socio-Economic Development Programme (SEDP).

Speaking at the release of the BJP’s Vision Document at Hotel Regency in Aizawl, Nadda emphasized the preparation of a white paper on the alleged fund mismanagement by the current MNF regime.

The BJP expressed its commitment to finding a peaceful and enduring resolution to the contentious interstate boundary issues between Mizoram and neighboring Assam. The party also pledged to offer a free education package to internally displaced people from Manipur taking refuge in Mizoram.

Within its Vision Document, the BJP introduced “Operation Drug Free Mizoram” as a key initiative.

On the subject of empowering women, the party promised to provide financial support of Rs. 1.5 lakh to each girl child, propose 33 percent reservation for women in government jobs and establish a Maternity and Children Multi-specialty Hospital in the capital city, Aizawl.

To cater to the needs of farmers, the BJP committed to launching the Mizoram Agri-Infra Mission with an estimated expenditure of Rs. 1,000 crore and disbursing Rs. 8,000 to each farmer under the PM Kissan program.

The Vision Document also included plans for the launch of the Mizoram Health Infrastructure Fund with an allocation of Rs. 500 crore and the transformation of Zoram Medical College into the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.

The BJP further promised to initiate robust infrastructure development in the state, with the launch of the Rs. 950 crore Mizoram Rural Infrastructure Development Mission and the Rs. 400 crore Mizoram Urban Infrastructure Development Mission. Additionally, the party aimed to identify Siaha district in south Mizoram as an aspirational district.

The BJP also committed to ensuring that at least one person in every family across the state would secure a government job.

JP Nadda emphasized that the BJP follows a “report card politics” approach and cited Prime Minister Modi’s transformative influence on the political culture in India. He also highlighted the positive changes experienced in the Northeast region since the NDA came to power at the national level.

The upcoming Mizoram assembly elections, featuring 40 seats, will be conducted in a single phase on November 7, with the vote count scheduled for December 3. The BJP, which contested 39 seats in the last assembly election in 2018, is now competing for 23 seats.
