Aizawl, Feb 06: During a recent party meeting, Mizoram’s Power Minister, F. Rodingliana, unveiled a series of strategic initiatives aimed at achieving self-sufficiency in power supply for the state. Emphasizing engagements at both central and foreign levels, the minister outlined a comprehensive approach towards this goal.

Minister Rodingliana announced plans to make Mizoram sustainable in power supply within five years, with efforts underway at the central and international levels. He highlighted the shift from hydel projects to incorporating solar power solutions, including rooftop installations and solar plants.

In addition to solar power, the minister revealed plans for establishing a power storage bank, incorporating innovative elements like hydrogen and ethanol.

Communities in Mizoram have offered land for setting up solar plants, but more contributions are needed from the public to meet ambitious targets.

Addressing challenges posed by the winter season, Minister Rodingliana acknowledged occasional instances of load shedding due to limitations faced by transformers and power lines. He specifically noted constraints faced by Luangmual Sub Station’s Incoming Line, limiting its capacity to 70MW.

Despite challenges, efforts are underway to enhance power infrastructure in the AMC Area, including the installation of 34 transformers with new lines and extensive deployment of bare conductors over kilometers. Minister Rodingliana expressed confidence that Mizoram would achieve sustainability in power supply within the next five years.

These plans follow recent incidents of public frustration, such as the vandalism of the power and electricity department office in Lungdai, Kolasib district, by residents of Kawnpui, Lungdai, Serkhan, Nisapui, and Lungmuat.
