Aizawl, Dec 19: Mizoram’s newly-appointed Home Minister, K. Sapdanga, dedicated to combatting the pervasive issue of drug trafficking, initiated his first official visit with a two-day tour to Myanmar border Champhai district. The border town, recognised as a primary conduit for illicit drugs, stands at the forefront of the anti-drug campaign, as declared by Sapdanga.

Champhai, a border town through which a significant portion of illicit drugs is smuggled, is a key focus area for the anti-drug campaign, Sapdanga said.

While eastern Mizoram is recognised for its diverse positive contributions, it is disheartening to note that it also serves as the main route for smuggled goods from Myanmar. The government is determined to exert maximum efforts to address this issue and earnestly appeals for public cooperation, Sapdanga said.

“We will begin revitalizing Mizoram, starting from Champhai,” he stated.

Sapdanga was accompanied by Lalnghinglova Hmar, Minister of State for Excise & Narcotics. He previously served as his trusted aide in Vanglaini, the largest circulated Mizo daily newspaper edited by Sapdanga before entering politics.
