Mizoram, May 4: The ruling party of Mizoram, Mizoram National Front (MNF) suffered yet another setback on Tuesday as their vice president, Vanlalzawma resigned from his post citing moral responsibility.
This came a day after their initial shock that the MNF president, Zoramthanga had lost the Serchhip Assembly seat in the by-poll.
According to sources, former Vice President of MNF Vanlalzawma handed over his resignation to the Party president and Chief Minister Zoramthanga.
In his interview with reporters, the MNF leader said he has resigned as the party vice president because he claims to have failed in his responsibility.
He has lost to the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) candidate Lalduhoma in the bypoll held for the Serchhip seat on April 17th by a total of 3,310 votes.
The results on Sunday had announced that the MNF leader had finished second securing a total of 5,319 votes in the bypoll, thus losing to opponent Lalduhoma.

Vanlalzawma was the only person to win a Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram for two consecutive terms from 1999 to 2009, first as an independent candidate and later as a member of the MNF.
The 65- year-old leader had successfully contested the state assembly polls from the Aizawl West-III constituency in 2013 and become an opposition leader in the state legislature for one term.
