Aizawal, Jan 23: The Myanmar military plane, carrying the pilot and 14 other crew members, swerved on the runway shortly after landing.

No casualties were reported in the crash, while four seriously injured and four slightly injured were rushed to Lengpui Hospital, the sources said.

Of the 276 Tatmadaw (Myanmar army) personnel, who entered the Mizoram-Myanmar border Bandukbanga village in extreme south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district, 184 were airlifted and evacuated by Myanmar Air Force’s cargo plane from the lone Lengpui airport near Aizawl to Sittwe (Akyab) port town of Myanmar’s Rakhine state on Monday.

The Tatmadaw members were airlifted at around 11 AM and 1 PM in two sorties (92 soldiers each) from Lengpui airport while the remaining 92 soldiers are most likely to be evacuated by the same Myanmar Air Force’s transport plane on Tuesday, State Home Department officials said.

Myanmar Air Force transport plane came from Mandalay city in the morning on Monday and landed at Lengpui airport two times from where it airlifted 184 Tatmadaw members to Sittwe, the capital port city of Rakhine state in Myanmar.

Tatmadaw members, who entered Mizoram-Myanmar border Bandukbangavillage in southernmost Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district on Wednesday last after mountain 979 Myanmar military base in southern Chin state was overrun and captured by the Arakan Army (AA) militants on the same day.

The armed Myanmar soldiers included 36 army officers headed by a Colonel and 240 other ranks.

All the 276 Myanmar army personnel, being hosted by the Assam Rifles at Parva and Zorinpui were brought to Aizawl via Lunglei on Friday and Saturday and were lodged at the Zokhawsang Assam Rifles headquarters near Aizawl where they are proposed to be shifted from the centre of Aizawl city.

With the latest entry of Myanmar army personnel to Mizoram, 635 Myanmar soldiers had fled their country after their camps were overrun and captured by ethnic armed organisations and local civilian militia groups and crossed the international border seeking shelter inside the state.

Of these, 543 Myanmar soldiers have already been evacuated to their country till Monday.

While 104 Myanmar army personnel have been evacuated from different places in Mizoram to Moreh in Manipur by Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters in three sorties during November last, 439 soldiers have so far been evacuated by Myanmar air force transport plane from Aizawl to Siwtte on February 2, 9 and 22.
