1. Myanmar’s National Unity Government issued guidelines for nationals sheltering in India due to security concerns.

New Delhi, May 09: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government issued guidelines for Myanmar nationals sheltering in India due to security concerns in their home country.

  1. Myanmar nationals in India are urged to adhere strictly to the following regulations:
    • Refrain from actions that undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.
    • Exercise caution and avoid involvement in political and administrative affairs, including election campaigns and ethnic conflicts.
    • Prohibited from participating in illegal trafficking activities, such as drugs and wildlife.
    • Respect the host country, live harmoniously with local communities, respect their religious practices, and adhere to social norms.
  2. In case of emergencies, including health and social issues, Myanmar nationals needing to cross the border should cooperate with relevant Indian authorities and NGOs to maintain security and stability.
  3. During hardships, Myanmar nationals are encouraged to seek assistance from civil society organizations, philanthropic groups aiding Myanmar refugees, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if necessary.
  4. Civil society organizations and philanthropic groups assisting Myanmar refugees are requested to disseminate these guidelines to relevant religious organizations, refugee camps, communities, and civil bodies.

In response to the notification, Manipur CM N Biren Singh highlighted the long-standing presence of Myanmar nationals in the region, noting historical migration patterns and expressing concerns about demographic changes.
