Kohima, Jan 16: As winter unfolds its chill, political discussions heat up in Nagaland as the Naga Hoho, a key Naga apex body, engaged in a significant meeting with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The purpose of the encounter was to submit a memorandum urging the implementation of the Framework Agreement signed between the Centre and the NSCN-IM.

The Naga Hoho delegation seized the opportunity to meet Rahul Gandhi during his presence in Nagaland, leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. The meeting transpired at the Khuzama ground campsite in Nagaland, where the leaders of Naga Hoho handed over the memorandum to Gandhi.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took to the X social media platform to disclose the development, emphasizing Naga Hoho’s request for Rahul Gandhi to raise the Framework Agreement issue in Parliament.

Ramesh highlighted the delegation’s concern about the lack of consultations with other political parties, particularly the Indian National Congress before the agreement was signed.

The Congress had governments in three Northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Manipur—at the time of the Framework Agreement.

The memorandum submitted by Naga Hoho echoes the longstanding call for the effective implementation of the Framework Agreement, a crucial document in the Naga peace process.

The Naga Hoho’s plea to Rahul Gandhi aligns with their push for broader parliamentary discussions on the agreement, emphasizing the need for inclusive dialogue and political consensus.

Rahul Gandhi, leading the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, entered Nagaland to engage with local communities and address key issues.

The Yatra, designed to foster national unity and justice, has been making its way through various regions, with the Nagaland leg scheduled for January 16 and 17. After Nagaland, the Yatra is set to continue its journey into Assam.

As the political landscape in Nagaland resonates with discussions around the Framework Agreement, Naga Hoho’s engagement with Rahul Gandhi underscores the importance of ongoing dialogues for the resolution of long-standing issues and the pursuit of peace in the region.
