Nagaland Hutah

Kohima, Aug 26: The Nagaland government has taken a significant step towards sustainable energy by signing a power purchase agreement with Hutah Industries, an independent power producer based in Dimapur. This agreement paves the way for the state to purchase electricity generated from a 10-megawatt biomass plant located in AK Industrial Village, Ganeshnagar.

During the signing ceremony, Nagaland Power and Parliamentary Affairs Minister KG Kenye commended Hutah Industries for their pioneering efforts in renewable energy. He emphasized the importance of developing power generation within the state to meet increasing energy demands and to promote industrial activities. Kenye also stressed the need for internal power generation as a means to reduce dependency on external sources.

Kenye proposed exploring a collaboration with the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) since the project is based on bamboo-fired power generation. Such collaborations would not only contribute to sustainable energy but also stimulate local employment opportunities.

Aditya Pandit, CEO & CFO of Hutah Industries, revealed that the bamboo required for the biomass plant would be cultivated within the project area. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed within 24 months and mentioned that Hutah Industries had already secured a 25-year lease for 1,500 acres of land.
