Taipei, Aug 03: 27 Chinese fighter jets entered its air defense zone on Wednesday in what the island sees as a major escalation. The Chinese fleet included six J-11 fighter jets, five J-16 fighter jets and 16 SU-30 fighter jets.
As a countermeasure, Taiwan also dispatched its own fighter jets and deployed air defense missiles, the ministry said in a statement.
“While claiming the US cannot stand idly to China’s affairs, it stands idly by over its own human rights problem, its riddled domestic problems, the wellbeing of its own people,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying was quoted as saying by Chinese media.
We left inspired by their courage, said Pelosi on her visit to Taiwan Human Right Museum.
Together with former political prisoners our delegation visited the Nat’l Human Rights Museum: a tribute to heroes who suffered & fought for Taiwan’s Democracy. Then we heard from civil society leaders on human rights. We came to listen & learn; we left inspired by their courage. pic.twitter.com/dsKa02n0Ka

US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi concluded her Taiwan visit amid sharp reactions from China. Pelosi landed in Taipei on Tuesday night and met Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen reiterating US commitment to the island’s democracy.
Irked by Pelosi’s visit, China held military drills near Taiwan’s shores. Meanwhile, Southeast Asian foreign ministers will seek ways to help quell the diplomatic storm over Taiwan at regional talks.
