Pharmacy Sonapur

Guwahati, Oct 19: The School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and IA Ayurvedic Medical College at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) joined hands with the Heart Care Society of Assam to commemorate National Pharmacy Week- 2023. They conducted a heart care awareness session at Sonapur Government Old Age Home, contributing to the well-being of elderly residents.

As part of this compassionate initiative, the organizers arranged free health check-ups for the residents of the Old Age Home. These check-ups included ECG, blood pressure, blood glucose, and Body Mass Index (BMI) monitoring.

The consultations were conducted by a team of dedicated healthcare professionals, including Dr N K Bhattacharjee, Dr Rohini Kumari from the Heart Care Society of Assam, and Dr Mofida Khatun, Dr Ruksana Parbin, along with senior nurses and assistant nurses from the University Hospital of Ayurveda & Naturopathy and IA Ayurvedic Medical College at USTM.

In addition to these health evaluations, the event aimed to bring comfort and joy to the elderly residents. The Heart Care Society of Assam distributed free fruits, groceries, health drinks, and sweets to the senior citizens living in the Old Age Home. This gesture not only added nutritional support but also brightened the residents’ day.

Crucially, the health awareness campaign didn’t stop at check-ups and provisions. Medicines were prescribed as needed, and the elderly residents were assured of ongoing health and medication support. The event was a testament to the importance of healthcare access, particularly for elderly individuals who may require special attention and care.

National Pharmacy Week serves as a reminder of the vital role pharmacists play in our healthcare system. It provides an opportunity to acknowledge their contributions to patient care and the overall well-being of the community. The collaborative efforts of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, IA Ayurvedic Medical College, and the Heart Care Society of Assam at Sonapur Government Old Age Home exemplify the spirit of this observance by promoting health and care in the local community.
