mobile internet

Imphal, Oct 19: Manipur’s Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, announced that mobile internet services would be reinstated in the state within “four to five days.” Speaking during a public program held at the mini secretariat in the predominantly Naga-inhabited Ukhrul district, after a cabinet meeting, Singh acknowledged the hardships faced by the public due to the mobile internet ban.

The government had reluctantly imposed the ban due to concerns that certain elements were exploiting the situation and inciting trouble. Chief Minister Singh, while empathizing with the inconvenience caused by the suspension of mobile internet services, assured the citizens that connectivity would be restored in the next four to five days.

During the day, Chief Minister Singh laid the foundation stones for several developmental projects and inaugurated various schemes collectively valued at Rs 64.38 crore in the Ukhrul and Kamjong districts. The investments in these projects indicate the government’s commitment to fostering growth and development in the region.

One of the significant issues that Chief Minister Singh addressed during his speech was the population growth in the district capital and the associated land disputes. In response, he proposed the idea of establishing a new Ukhrul township near Sirarakhong village, demonstrating the government’s commitment to respecting the wishes of the local population.

“Ukhrul is an important town in Manipur after Imphal, but the pressing issue of water scarcity continues to plague the area,” Singh pointed out. To alleviate this problem, the government has sanctioned Rs 6 crore for the augmentation of water supply in the town. Additionally, there are plans in motion to construct a dam, estimated to cost between Rs 180 crore to Rs 200 crore, which will further address the region’s water resource needs.

Singh expressed his gratitude to the civil society leaders and village chiefs for their steadfast support in the state’s ongoing anti-drug campaign. Their cooperation and dedication to tackling the issue of drug abuse have been instrumental in the government’s efforts to combat this pressing concern.
