Chin State of Manipur

1. The North Eastern Council (NEC) retracted its Draft Vision 2047 after mistakenly labeling Manipur as the “Chin State.”
2. Chapter 3 inaccurately mentioned “Kukis (Chin)” as from a non-existent Chin State.
3. The draft is now under review to correct these errors before further release.


Imphal, Aug 18: The North Eastern Council (NEC) has retracted its Draft Vision 2047 document after mistakenly referring to Manipur as the “Chin State of Manipur.”

The error appeared in Chapter 3, which incorrectly described the “Kukis (Chin)” as originating from this non-existent Chin State in its discussion on the migration of ethnic tribes in the Northeast.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh identified the error and alerted Union Minister JM Scindia.

He also directed Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi to ensure the correction. As a result, the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region withdrew the draft for revisions.

Planning Advisor Som Kamei confirmed the withdrawal of the document, which was initially circulated on August 9 and 17, 2024. The draft is now being reviewed to fix the inaccuracies before any further release.
