TMC behind the artificial potato crisis in Bengal: Dilip Ghosh

West Bengal, 29th November: Hitting out at the Mamata led Trinamool Congress (TMC) the government in West Bengal, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh on Sunday alleged that an “artificial potato crisis” has been created in the state by those patronized by the ruling party.

His argument is that the state government is responsible for the rise in potato prices. The price of potatoes has gone up as money has stopped flowing into the coal-cattle smuggling case.

Dilip Ghosh said, “Ordinary people are worried about the price of potatoes. The prices of winter vegetables have not come down either. Why is that? The money of the syndicate has stopped flowing, hence they are increasing prices to make money.”

The CBI has been conducting continuous searches in the state for the last few days. The operation to catch coal and cattle smuggling is going on continuously, he added.

TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee takes on PM Modi and BJP on personal remarks

0

India, 29th November: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) used the Pulwama terror attack as an election issue to retain power in 2019 but has done nothing to free the territory China captured in Ladakh six months ago, Lok Sabha member and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee alleged at a huge public rally at his constituency Diamond Harbour on Sunday.

This was his first public meeting in eight months. Taking an aggressive stance, he declared the launch of his election campaign.

“The government has not disclosed how much territory has been occupied by China. In fact, the Prime Minister says there is no such occupation while the Union defence minister claims otherwise. Who is fooling the people? We want China to be given a befitting reply but all Modi has done is ban some Chinese apps. How long do you plan to carry on with this politics with your false patriotism? Will you free this territory before the next election?” said Abhishek Banerjee.

“We want India to give a befitting reply to any country that endangers her sovereignty, be it Pakistan, China, Nepal or Bangladesh. But why is the government silent for six months although China has occupied our territory in Ladakh? Do the lives of our soldiers who died in Galwan have no value?” Abhishek Banerjee questioned BJP.

Recently, Banerjee has been targeted by state and central leaders of the opposition. In his speech, Banerjee dared PM Modi and other BJP leaders to take his name instead of referring to him as bhaipo (nephew in Bengal) or bhatija (nephew in Hindi) in their public speeches.

“At his rally at Diamond Harbour before the last election, Modi said ‘bhatija’ will lose the limelight. I dare Modi and BJP leaders of all ranks to take my name. Neither the Prime Minister nor the others have that courage. Every time they did it, I dragged them to the high court and rubbed their noses on the ground. That’s why they are afraid of taking my name these days,” said Banerjee.

“I am not afraid of taking names. I am boldly saying Amit Shah, Kailash Vijayvargiya, Amit Malviya, Sunil Deodhar and the others are outsiders. I am saying Dilip Ghosh (state BJP president) is a ruffian and a mafia. I am saying Vijayvargiya’s son Akash is a ruffian,” said Banerjee.

Reacting to this, Vijayvargiya said, “Banerjee has been shaken by the raids the income tax department and the Central Bureau of Investigation is carrying out against a coal mafia don close to him. He has lost balance. I don’t want to react to this.”

At the rally, Banerjee attacked the BJP on the issue of development as well.

“We can show with statistics that the TMC government in Bengal has performed much better than the BJP government at the Centre in several fields. I dare the BJP to send any Central minister or any number of leaders to sit for a debate with me on a live television show. I will not show my face if I cannot back our claim with data. Why is your politics based on religion and not development?” said Banerjee.

Talking at length on the development projects of the state government, Banerjee said, “TMC is a party of the people. Mamata Banerjee has made a lot of sacrifices and so have you (the workers). She is the sun. You (the opposition) will burn if you try to touch her,” said Banerjee.

Rebel rising in TMC against Prashant Kishore

0

Bengal, 29th November: Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee’s new headache goes by the name Prashant Kishore. In the run-up to the 2021 Assembly elections in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee’s political strategist Prashant Kishor is facing heat from several senior and mid-level Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders for his “inexperience” and “lack of understanding of the politics of Bengal”.

Senior Trinamool leaders and ministers are slowly embarking on a rebellion, but the biggest blow to Mamata is the step down of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Suvendu Adhikari from the West Bengal cabinet.

So many MLAs are there who are also speaking against the intervention of electoral strategist Prashant Kishore (PK) within the party.

TMC MLA Jatu Lahiri slams Prashant Kishore by saying that PK is the main reason behind all the problems within the party.

“They have been rented at the party. All losses have been started since PK was appointed,” MLA said.

MLA also indicates leaving the party in the upcoming days. Jattu Lahiri indirectly indicated the party to leave in the coming days.

Jatu said, “I have joined the party just because of the Mamata Banerjee. She should run the party on her own.”

While talking about the recent resignation of Shubhendu Adhikari, he said “Shubhendu Adhikari was able to get out of the fascination for the post of minister. There are many problems at the party. We all are sad about this. The common people were not getting the service are the election of Howrah Municipal Corporation is due for the last 2 years. The members associated with PK have forced me to hold several programs but no one has the right to force anyone for any program.”

“I don’t from where they (members associated with PK) are getting so much money,” said TMC MLA Jatu Lahiri.

Adhikari has been a hotshot political property in West Bengal ever since he started a rebellion against his own party. He had begun expressing his disenchantment with TMC with indirect jibes at “apolitical” meetings and rallies.

Gorkhas of Assam, release a white paper, seek recognition as an indigenous group

0

Assam, 29th November: The Assam unit of Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) has released a white paper demanding that Gorkhas are an indigenous group of the state and should be included as such in the high-level committee (HLC) report on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, which had left the community out.

The compendium of historical facts and figures showing the presence of the community in Assam for many centuries was released in Guwahati.

“The white paper includes document and facts with commentaries towards justification of Gorkhas as an indigenous group of Assam which the Justice Biplab Kumar Sharma-led HLC on Assam Accord Clause 6 undermined and left out from the report without any mention,” said BGP’s Assam spokesperson Nanda Kirati Dewan.

The Assam Accord was signed in 1985 after a 6-year agitation in the state against illegal immigrants from Bangladesh. Clause 6 of the accord sought to provide constitutional, legislative, and administrative safeguards to protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of the indigenous Assamese people.

The HLC, formed by the Union home ministry Amit Shah, to define who constitute Assamese people and suggest measures for safeguarding their rights, submitted its report in February this year to Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

The report of the committee, which was made public by All Assam Students Union (AASU) in August, stated that all citizens of India, who was a resident of Assam on January 1, 1951, and their descendants, would be considered as Assamese people for the purpose of Clause 6.

According to the members of BGP, there was no mention of the Gorkha community in the HLC report. In September, BGP submitted a dissent note to the Assam chief secretary seeking safeguards for the community under provisions of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord.

Copies of the white paper would be sent to the Union home minister, chief minister of Assam, and other departments to seek the inclusion of Gorkhas as an indigenous community of Assam in the HLC report.

Mizoram Govt extends lockdown; Celebration of Christmas, New Year to be low-key

0

Mizoram, 28th November: Mizoram will celebrate Christmas and New Year in a low-key manner with the state government extending the ongoing lockdown under the “COVID-19 No Tolerance Drive” till January 10 2021 to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

Mizoram government has also banned all the social gathering other than government function during Christmas and New Year.

Night curfew has been clamped in all district headquarters from 8 pm to 4:30 am.

The drive that began on October 16 after a spike in COVID-19 cases in the state were scheduled to be lifted on November 30.

The government order said that the overall rates of detection of COVID-19 positive cases and local transmission have significantly declined due to the particular drive.

However, the Lengpui Airport along with the inter-state border will continue to open for vehicles carrying commodities and passengers. All shops will also open normally from December 1.

Meanwhile, State education minister, Lalchhandama Ralte said that schools will remain closed in December as COVID-19 is likely to aggravate during the winter.

Although schools are scheduled to open on January 15 next year, the final call will be taken only after taking into consideration the Covid-19 scenario in the state.

The government has also decided to cut down the syllabus for all classes by 30 per cent and instructed the Mizoram Board of School Education (MBSE) to prepare model sample questions for X and XII standard students, who will appear for board examinations next year.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) and MBSE have also been directed to prepare bridge courses for school students.

However, online classes will continue till December 18 for the current year and from January 5 to 14 next year.

National wrestling championship will be held in the last week on Jan 2021

0

India, 28th November: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has postponed next month’s national championship to January 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

WFI Assistant Secretary Vinod Tomar informed that the prevailing conditions have forced them to push the Nationals by at least a month.

“The situation is far from ideal. It is not possible to conduct Nationals. We will try to host the championships towards the end of January next year,” said Tomar.

It means the next year will see two national championships.

“We have done that in the past too when circumstances dictated such a step,” Tomar said.

This year’s National Wrestling championship was scheduled to be held in Gonda, UP from December 18-20 but Tomar said if there are more interested states, they might consider changing the venue.

The WFI official reported that they are ready to send the Indian team for the individual World Cup, set to be held in Belgrade, Serbia from December 12-18.

The gold medal winner will get prize money of 4000 Swiss Francs while the runner-up will be richer by 3000 Swiss Francs. The bronze medal winner gets 1500.

“We decided against hosting the trials and are sending the same wrestlers who competed in the Asian Championship in New Delhi in February. Bajrang Punia (65kg), Vinesh Phogat (53kg), Jitender Kumar (74kg) and Sombir Rathi (92kg) has asked for an exemption and we have granted it,” he said.

“While Bajrang, Vinesh, and Sombir’s categories will go unrepresented, Nar Singh Yadav will compete for India in the 74kg,” he added.

Since the WFI is not conducting trials, it means that Pooja Dhanda will miss the event as young Anshu Malik will compete in the 57kg category. It will also ensure that Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik competes in the 65kg category since her new nemesis Sonam Malik had competed in 62kg during the Asian event.

Ahana and Vaibhav have a son named Darien, who was ‘excited‘ about the arrival of the bundle of joy.

Though Ahana did not venture into films, she used to perform with her mother, actor-Bharatiya Janata Party Member of Parliament Hema Malini and sister Esha in their traditional dance acts.

Hema rarely shares pictures of her younger daughter but some throwbacks do feature her. Sharing one from the time the girls were young, Hema had written: “Weekend is a time to cherish with family. Sharing something close to my heart! Have a great weekend ahead.” Unlike her elder sister, Ahana chose to be away from arclights though early on, she did assist Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the 2009 movie Guzarish, starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Hema, who has had an active political career, does take time out for her family life. Only recently, she was in the news when she conducted a havan at her residence on Esha’s birthday amid lockdown. While she conducted the havan, she was guided by their family priest.

Sharing a bunch of pictures, Hema had written: “Esha’s birthday today. I pray for God’s blessings on her to be always happy and loved. As we do every year, we had a small havan at home and I sat with her to conduct the puja as directed by our family priest online. Love you @Esha_Deol, my baby.”

Tripura: Hindu outfit seeks nationwide law to curb ‘Love Jihad’

Tripura, 28th November: The Hindu Jagaran Mancha in Tripura is demanding an effective law to curb alleged ‘love jihad’ across the country. Around 300 members of the outfit blocked the National Highway at Subhash Bridge in Udaipur of Gomati district in support of their demand.

Citing instances of alleged ‘love jihad’ across the country and claiming that incidents like the recent abduction and rape of a Hindu minor girl at Boxanagar– a border village in Sepahijala district— by a youth from a minority community was on the rise, the agitators demanded a stringent law to curb forced interfaith relationships.

A case was registered on October 27 against the youth under Section 366 (A), 376, and 4 of the POCSO Act. Within a few days after her abduction during the Durga puja festivities, the minor girl was recovered from Durlabhnarayan area in the district, but the accused is yet to be arrested.

“The protesters demanded a strict law to check love jihad. The prime accused in the abduction and rape of the minor is absconding and the police investigation is on to trace the accused,” said Dhrubha Nath, Udaipur sub-divisional police officer.

“At least nine cases of Love Jihad were lodged at different police stations in Tripura during the Covid-19 pandemic. No accused has been arrested in any of these cases. A law can act as a safeguard for such cases,” said Uttam Dey, Jagaran Mancha president.

However, the police rejected the claim and said no such the case related to purported ‘love jihad’ was lodged in the state in the past three-four months.

The protest comes on a day when Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel gave assent to an ordinance against forcible or fraudulent religious conversions, which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years and fine of up to Rs 50,000 under different categories.

Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 has been brought in by the Yogi Adityanath government to curb religious conversions only for the sake of marriage. According to the ordinance, a marriage will be declared “null and void” if the conversion of the woman is solely for that purpose and those wishing to change their religion after marriage needs to apply to the district magistrate.

Madhya Pradesh government has also indicated that it would double the duration of the sentence to 10-years of rigorous imprisonment from a 5-year sentence for cases of forceful religious conversions and marriages by enticement or fraud.
