Sonowal asks district administrations to undertake survey at grass root

Guwahati, August 20: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday at a meeting held at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Dibrugarh took stock of the latest COVID-19 situation in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts and asked the concerned DCs and Joint Directors Health to ensure adherence of guidelines for the treatment COVID19 positive patients.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Sonowal took stock of the number of COVID19 positive patients, their treatment protocols, quarantine and isolation facilities as well as other awareness campaigns to ensure adherence to safety protocols.

In the meeting Principal of Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh briefed the Chief Minister of all the treatment facilities put into place in view of the pandemic.

Sonowal asked the principal to impress upon his hospital administration to remain ever alert to provide medical intervention to the critical COVID19 positive patients without any delay.

The Assam Chief Minister while taking stock of the steps taken at the COVID Care Centres in both districts, asked the health department to set up a big COVID Care Centre at Tinsukia.

The meeting also discussed elaborately the prevailing COVID19 situation in the tea garden areas. In view of the rising number of COVID19 positive cases, Sonowal stressed on strict surveillance on the tea garden areas for judicious management of pandemic in the area.

He also asked the district administrations to undertake a survey to understand the mental condition of the people and how economic activities can be started in the tea garden areas amid COVID19 pandemic.

He also emphasized that the economic activities should be resumed adhering all safety protocols as he asked the administration to generate awareness regarding this.

Sonowal also asked the Joint Directors Health to render timely medical intervention for all the COVID19 positive people in home isolation.

In the meeting SBI Foundation donated 10 ventilators to Assam Medical College and Hospital. Sonowal thanked the SBI fraternity for their generosity and said that the act of benevolence will have a positive impact on the administration of treatment.

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Rameswar Teli, MLAs Prasanta Phukan, Rituporno Baruah, Vinod Hazarika, DC Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, Principal Assam Medical College, senior officers of Health and Family Welfare Department were present during the meeting.

4 Naga tribes features in Dr Benny Prasad project

Kohima, Aug 20: Yet again, renown international musician, Dr Benny Prasad has initiated another unique project where a prayer song on “The Lord’s Prayer” featuring 94 artists in 25 Indian languages was released on August 14 by Dr Benny Prasad from Bangalore.

Out of the 25 languages, 13 of them were from the North East and 4 Naga tribes namely Ao, Lotha, Angami and Sumi were also featured in Dr Prasad’s project.

Dr Benny informed that he started the “The Lord’s Prayer” project on July 19 with an objective for expressing worship to God creatively and colourfully with the ethnic identity given to each one by the Creator.

“I also intended to highlight the NE as a major portion of India has no clue of NE, and you can notice that out of 25 languages, 13 of them were from the NE,” Dr Benny said.

Further, he expressed that many people were amazed to learn about the many languages spoken in the NE adding even though what I showcased was just the tip of the iceberg of the NE.

Describing the song as complex which was composed by Albert Hay Malotte in 1935, Dr Prasad mentioned that, it was not a catwalk project.

Citing the challenges of his project, he said fitting the syllables of the language to the meter of the tune, making sure that the exact words in the Bible were taken of the respective languages, choosing the right singers from respective states, getting permission for shooting at different churches during the lockdown period etc were not an easy task.

Through the project, Dr Benny Prasad wishes hopes in the lives of people who are undergoing mental suffering and hardships especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He believes that prayers are invisible and invincible weapon that can help overcome all odds.

Dr Benny Prasad holds the Guinness feat of being the fastest person in the world to travel to 245 countries including Antarctica in 6 years 6 months and 22 days. He is also the inventor of the world’s First Bongo Guitar.

Two road construction workers die in an accident in Assam

Guwahati, Aug 20: Two workers engaged in a road construction were killed in an accident in Assam’s Nagaon district.

The incident took place at Kaliabar area in the central Assam district were a vehicle of the road construction company mowed down its two workers on Wednesday night.

The severely injured workers were rushed to hospital but they succumbed to their injuries.

The deceased persons were identified as Arabind Bangthai and Mrinal Timing hailing from Tegheria area near Jagiroad in Morigaon district.

According to the reports the deceased workers were engaged in the four-lane construction works at Kaliabar area.

Meanwhile, police have seized the vehicle and registered a case.

24 stranded Myanmar national sent home

Imphal, Aug 19: 24 stranded Myanmar national in Manipur were sent to their country on Tuesday.

The Indian officials had handed over the nationals to their counterparts of Myanmar at Moreh – the Indo-Myanmar border town of Manipur.

Out of 24 national seven are females.

Some of them are students and some others are working in weaving factories in India.

A top official of Manipur government said that, out of 24 people four are from Tamu Township, three from Foungsing village, Khanteen Township, three from Pangsoung, Sagaing region, two each from Lasei Township, Tiddim township, Hakha township, Matupi Chin and one each from Pansaung Township longlang village, Summra Township, Kalay township, Tanzang township, Pawa Kachin, Anesakhan, Pyin Oo LwinLwin.

Illegally transported commercial goods caught by Assam rifles

Thoubal, Aug 17: Assam Rifles caught a consignment of Rs. 14 lakh worth of illegally transported commercial goods which included betel nuts, cigarettes and many more items, on August 14.

Two white Maruti Gypsy suspected of transporting illegal goods were intercepted by the troops at a Mobile Vehicle Check Post in Thoubal- Hongboi Road.

The Assam Rifles found 14000 packets of cigarettes, 100 kgs of betel nuts, 5 boxes of mosquito repellent, 14 boxes of tinned fish and other commercial items on the detailed search of the vehicles.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Rishikanta and Chalamba from Khurai in Imphal, it further said.

The apprehended have been handed over to the Custom and Excise Department along with the illegal commercial goods that have been recovered, for further action.

Thoubal has been in news quite a few times because of the illegal transportation of goods. This time also the consignment has been recovered at a check post in Thoubal.

Nishikant Kamat passes away at the age of 50

Yet another shocking news for cinephiles!

India, Aug 17: Director of Drishyam and Madaari, Nishikant Kamat passed away at Hyderabad hospital today at the age of 50. He was diagnosed with chronic liver disease.

The news went viral after Ritesh Deshmukh tweeted about his death “I will miss you, my friend. #NishikantKamat Rest In Peace“.

After gifting the industry with a number of successful movies, the director succumbs to multiple organ failure. He was suffering from chronic liver disease and secondary infections. On July 31, he was admitted to AIG Hospital in Gachibowli, Hyderbad with issues of fever and excessive fatigue. The doctors in his statement mentioned that he was diagnosed with liver cirrhosis for the past two years. Initially, he was improving with antibiotics and supportive medications but the conditions soon began to deteriorate with progressive liver dysfunction and drowsiness. Immediately he was shifted to the ICU where his condition gradually declined. He developed respiratory failure and hypotension.

He made his film debut in the 2004 film, Hava Aney Dey as an actor. Gradually his field of interest shifted towards the direction. He won awards and accolades for his Marathi films like Dombivali Fast and Lai Bhaari. He went on to direct Hindi films like Madaari, Mumbai Meri Jaan and Force. He got the national spotlight when he directed Drishyam, the remake of a 2013 Malayali film.

A number of actors from the industry have expressed a major sense of loss. Ajay Devgan who worked with him for Drishyam tweeted, “My equation with Nishikant was not just about Drishyam, a film which he directed with Tabu and me. It was an association that I cherished. He was bright; ever-smiling. He has gone too soon. RIP Nishikant.”

Actor Nimrat Kaur tweeted, “Really sorry to learn of the untimely passing away of Nishikant Kamat. Heartfelt condolences  prayers for all his loved ones.”

Randeep Hooda also expressed his grief and wrote, “Farewell Nishi!! You lived and died by what you decided you loved more than anything else .. I’m sure you had no regrets about much .. thank you for all the movies, all the fun stories, warmth and smiles #NishikantKamat.”

Second flood warning issued in Andhra Pradesh!

Godavari water level reaches closer to the danger mark.

Andhra Pradesh, Aug 17: On Sunday afternoon, Godavari river crosses the 53.7 ft. flood level mark at Bhadrachalam in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh.

After 6 years, this is the third time that people are receiving this warning. According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) officials, the water would have crossed the 57 ft. mark by night. Taking that into consideration, 30 families of Kotha Colony were shifted by the Commission to relief and rehabilitation camp set up at Nannapaneni High School.

The overflow had poured over several parts of the state.

In Ramannagudem village of Eturunagaram Mandal in Mulugu district, the water level rose alarmingly on Sunday. The most affected areas were Kothuru, Chinthagudem, Eturunagaram, Ramannagudem, Kodai, Odagudem, Pedamuru, Oorttham and Waze.

Several roads including the National Highway-163 had been blocked, thus affecting regular transportation of people.

Collector, S. Krishna Aditya and S.P. Sangramsingh G Patil are monitoring the rescue operations in Agency areas. Since water levels were likely to rise further, the tribals are being shifted for their safety. The Collector said that the river had crossed the second-warning level for flood in Andhra Pradesh, so around 3000 people were being shifted from Agency hamlets to other areas.

Complete lockdown declared in Aizawl

Aizawl, Aug 18: The Mizoram government announced a 4-day complete lockdown in Aizawl Municipal Corporation area starting from 8 pm on Sunday.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by the health minister, Dr R. Lalthangliana involving top officials, police officers and doctors.

With 12 more fresh cases reported in the past 24 hours, Mizoram’s COVID numbers have risen to 789. 6 cases were reported from Aizawl, 3 from Kolasib, 2 from Sercchip and 1 from Lawngtlai. The total number of active cases are now 418 while 371 people have already recovered.

The streets of the state capital looked deserted without any vehicles, except those dealing with duties for the pandemic. The police ordered all business shops, government and private company offices to remain shut. However, banks, shops selling essential commodities and filling stations remained open.

The order prohibited incoming passengers into the AMC area besides those who had taken permission from state home department or from the Aizawl district Deputy Commissioner in case of medical emergencies, for example, death of a family member.

According to the health department, at least 55 local transmission cases have been reported and there is a high risk of community transmission.

A complete lockdown was necessary to facilitate collection and testing of swab samples of primary and secondary contacts to perform extensive tracing and testing of people who have already come in contact with a patient and those who have high risks of getting infected.

Lengpui airport will remain open during the lockdown.

Only essential commodities can be imported inside the state capital and shops dealing with them can remain open with arrangements made by the DC and local level task force.

Religious, educational and training institutes will remain closed. Upcoming offline examinations will be postponed in the AMC area. Only online examinations will be allowed.

No resident other than those exempted can step out of their house. Funerals or important public gatherings cannot have more than 50 attenders.

Naval Commanders’ Conference 2020 New Delhi

New Delhi, August 18: The Naval Commanders’ Conference of 2020 is scheduled at New Delhi from 19 to 21 Aug 20. The Conference is the apex level event for interaction between the Naval Commanders. The Chief of the Naval Staff, with the Commanders-in-Chief, will review major operational, materiel, logistics, HR, training and administrative activities undertaken during the year and deliberate upon the course to be steered in the future.

The Conference assumes greater significance in the backdrop of recent events on our northern borders, coupled with the unprecedented challenges posed by COVID-19 and would provide the higher naval leadership with a forum to discuss the conduct of operations, sustenance and maintenance of assets, procurement issues, infrastructure development, human resource management, etc within the ambit of the new normal established by the pandemic.

The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri is scheduled to address the Naval Commanders on the opening day and interact with them. The conference is also the forum for interaction of Naval Commanders with other senior government officials.

This is the first Naval Commanders’ Conference since the institution of Department of Military Affairs (DMA) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). The conference would discuss upon the ways to optimise joint planning structures, Tri-Service Synergy, and operational readiness, is also functional reorganisation within the IN to improve efficiency.

In keeping with the Hon’ble PM’s vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region), the Commanders would also undertake deliberations upon the larger security imperatives in the Indo-Pacific.

Assam government decides to provide scooties to 22,000 girl students

Guwahati, Aug 19: The Assam government has decided to give scooties to 22,000 girl students who passed the higher secondary final examinations (Class 12) with first division marks.

Assam Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government will provide scooties to 22,000 girl students who passed the higher secondary final examinations by securing over 60 per cent marks.

Addressing a press conference held in Guwahati on Tuesday, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that, it is a budget announcement and the state government is now going to implement the budget announcement.

“We will provide the scooties to 22,000 girl students by October 15 this year. The cost of each scooty is estimated Rs 50,000-55,000,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

He further said that those students who want electric scooty, they can apply for it in sebaonline.org website.

“The students will not able to sell the scooties for at least three years and they will have to bear the registration cost,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

The minister also said that the state government has urged all colleges of the state to increase its seats by 25 per cent this year and these seats will be reserved for only the students who passed Class 12 examinations under the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC).
