Manipur: Reaction of Meghalaya CM Conrad Sagma on Manipur rift

June 18: A day after 3 BJP MLAs resigned from the N. Biren Singh led government in Manipur and NPP withdrew its support, here’s what NPP chief and Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma has to say about the political crisis in the neighbouring state.

“The NPP had withdrawn support yesterday after 3 of the BJP MLAs had resigned from the primary membership of the BJP. There has been a bit of friction and a bit of differences with the leadership of the state and between the NPP ministers and the MLAs. We had brought this to the notice of the central leadership also and we were trying to resolve the issue to a large extent and efforts were on. But I think finally the resignation of the BJP MLAs has triggered the entire sequence of events. Therefore the NPP members have decided to no longer support the BJP government in Manipur. I am in touch with them and we are trying to see how to move forward with this situation. Our National Secretary has been asked to visit Manipur and give us a report there and meet the concerned leaders and MLAs and ministers.”

4 NPP legislators namely, Y. Joykumar, L. Jayantakumar Singh, Letpao Haokip and N. Kayisii, who were also serving as ministers in the Manipur assembly have resigned from the government.

However, the impact of the Manipur rift won’t be seen between NPP and BJP in Meghalaya, the Chief Minister stated.

Congress has staked a claim for power in the state as these developments take place.

Congress leader Ajay Maken has been appointed in the state as an observer of party activities. He will be reaching the state on Friday. Accompanying him will be State party chief Gaurav Gogoi.

“We will move for a floor test. If they are in minority we shall have to form the government”, said 3 time Manipur Chief Minister Oram Ibobi Singh.

June 18, 2020: In Arunachal Pradesh’s second most populous Changlang district, doctors, nurses and attendants have taken up a unique initiative, adding human touch, to help their patients be more comfortable by pinning their pictures on respective PPE kits.

Wearing PPE kits often makes it difficult for doctors to be recognisable. And thus, to make patients comfy and for them to know who their care providers are, these docs have taken up this initiative in the district’s Miao COVID-19 centre.

Deputy Commissioner of Changlang district, Devesh Yadav tweeted a picture of doctors, nurses and attendants earlier this week and wrote, “Our #covidwarriors at COVID care centres in #changlang, bring a human touch to patient care by displaying their photographs in front of PPEs!!

Helps in #COVID19 counselling & shows the face of those behind masks to the patients in distress!!“

He also said, “Patients in the centres are kept in isolation and they aren’t allowed to go out or meet anyone. Though there is a helpline which they can use, they don’t get to see a human face and even their care providers look the same as all are covered in PPE kits“

He said that this idea of pasting pictures on PPEs had struck him after a US-based friend told him about the same.

Changlang district had reported its 1st COVID-19 positive case and has already crossed the 50 mark.
