Imphal, Jan 03: Amidst the surging violence in Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has issued a stark warning, asserting that those responsible for the escalating unrest will face consequences, potentially leading to the reimposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA).
The Chief Minister expressed profound concern over recent violent incidents, particularly the firing in Lilong Chingjao, Thoubal district, resulting in the death of four villagers at the hands of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the political arm of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Reports suggest the attack was linked to disputes over illegal drug trade revenue.
During his visit to the injured at Raj Medicity, Chief Minister Singh condemned the violence through a video message, urging the people of Lilong to maintain peace.
He emphasized the government’s intolerance towards lawlessness, cautioning that those engaging in such activities would bear responsibility for any stringent measures imposed, including the potential reinstatement of AFSPA.

The act, extended for six months in the state’s hill areas since October of the previous year, had certain exemptions despite ongoing violent conflicts.
Singh’s statements followed a series of violent incidents, including a gunfight in Moreh town near the India-Myanmar border that left several security personnel injured.
The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to justice, launching operations to apprehend those involved in the violence. He called on the public to collaborate with authorities by reporting suspicious activities and urged unity against the “enemies of Manipur,” discouraging internal conflicts.
