New Delhi, Dec 13: In a solemn ceremony held at the Parliament premises, President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, along with other dignitaries, paid heartfelt tributes to the brave security personnel who sacrificed their lives during the 2001 terrorist attack on Parliament.

Former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, alongside Kharge, also offered floral tributes to the fallen soldiers. All leaders, including PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, observed a minute of silence to honor the memory of the victims.

On December 13, 2001, terrorists affiliated with the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed outfits launched a heinous attack on the Parliament complex, claiming the lives of nine people. Swift action by security forces resulted in the elimination of all five terrorists.

President Murmu emphasized the need to renew the commitment to eradicate terrorism while commemorating the sacrifice of the soldiers. In a statement on social media, she expressed, “Their sacrifice will not be allowed to go in vain as we reiterate today our pledge to wipe out terrorism — a threat to humankind everywhere — in all its forms and manifestations.”

PM Modi echoed these sentiments, stating, “Their courage and sacrifice in the face of danger will forever be etched in our nation’s memory.”
