Aizawl, Dec 13: Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati delivered the inaugural address for the first session of the Ninth Mizoram Legislative Assembly, outlining the government’s commitment to change, growth, and development in the state.

The governor commenced his address by commending the active participation of Mizoram’s citizens in the recent general election held on November 7, 2023, with an impressive voter turnout of 80.43%. This substantial engagement, according to him, reflects the increasing and profound interest of the Mizoram people in the electoral process.

Extending his congratulations to all elected members, especially the 23 individuals newly elected to the Assembly, Governor Kambhampati highlighted the historic election of three women MLAs, an unprecedented achievement in Mizoram’s legislative history. He expressed optimism that this milestone would positively impact the lives of women across the state.

Acknowledging the contributions of various stakeholders, including the bureaucracy, law enforcement agencies, civil society, NGOs, churches, and the Mizoram People’s Forum (MPF), Governor Kambhampati attributed the success of the election to their collaborative efforts.

The governor emphasized the election outcome as indicative of the people’s desire for a new system, known as ‘Kalphung Thar,’ showcasing their strong belief in the democratic process of change.

In his address, Governor Kambhampati outlined seven major areas of focus for the upcoming five years, emphasizing responsible and responsive administration guided by principles of good governance and accountability. The priorities include supporting industry growth, ensuring social security and equity, promoting youth welfare and development, environmental protection, and undertaking long-term transformative developmental projects.

The governor’s comprehensive vision aims to foster steady and sustainable development across sectors, reflecting the government’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs and aspirations of Mizoram’s citizens.
