Guwahati, Jan 03: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia payment of two lakh rupees from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased in the tragic bus accident in Assam’s Dergaon.

The accident, which occurred on January 2 and claimed the lives of 11 people, prompted PM Modi to express condolences and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.

Assam Transport Minister Parimal Suklabaidya has ordered an investigation into the incident and expressed deep shock over the tragic accident.

He assured full financial assistance to the families of the deceased and pledged medical support for the injured.

The minister also indicated that the main culprit responsible for the incident would face punishment, and a complaint would be filed against the road contractor for the reported poor construction of the ill-fated route.

PM Modi’s tweet stated, “Pained by the loss of lives due to a road mishap in Golaghat, Assam. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover at the earliest. The local administration is providing all possible assistance to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.”

As Assam grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident, both the central and state governments are taking steps to support the affected families and address the issues leading to the accident.
