Guwahati, May 29: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off Assam’s first Vande Bharat Express on Monday, marking a significant milestone in the region’s transportation infrastructure. The train will cover the journey from Guwahati to New Jalpaiguri, providing a faster and more comfortable mode of travel.
The Vande Bharat Express is capable of completing the journey in just 5 hours and 30 minutes, significantly reducing the travel time compared to the current fastest train which takes 6 hours and 30 minutes.
Boosting Tourism and Connectivity
The introduction of the Vande Bharat Express is expected to boost tourism in the region. With its state-of-the-art facilities and speed, the train will provide both locals and tourists with a convenient means of travel. Connecting Guwahati with New Jalpaiguri, the Vande Bharat Express is set to save approximately an hour of travel time, making journeys more efficient and comfortable.
In addition to flagging off the Vande Bharat Express, PM Modi will also dedicate newly electrified sections and inaugurate a newly constructed DEMU/MEMU shed. The dedication of 182 route kilometers of newly electrified sections will contribute to pollution-free transportation and enable trains to run at higher speeds, reducing overall travel time. Furthermore, this development opens doors for trains running on electric traction to enter Meghalaya, enhancing connectivity in the region.
Enhancing Operational Feasibility
The inauguration of the newly constructed DEMU/MEMU shed at Lumding in Assam is another significant achievement. This facility will play a crucial role in maintaining DEMU rakes operating in the region, ensuring better operational feasibility and reliability. By providing a dedicated space for maintenance activities, the shed will contribute to the seamless functioning of train operations.
