New Delhi, May 28: In a momentous event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament building on Sunday morning. The inauguration ceremony was steeped in tradition and marked the beginning of a new era for India’s legislative hub.

Dressed in traditional attire, Prime Minister Modi entered the Parliament premises through Gate No. 1, where he was warmly welcomed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. The air was filled with Vedic chants performed by priests from Karnataka’s Shringeri Math, creating an aura of spirituality and auspiciousness.

To invoke the blessings of the divine, the Prime Minister conducted a “Ganapati Homam” ceremony. The sacred ritual sought divine intervention and blessings for the successful inauguration of the new Parliament building.

A significant moment during the ceremony was when Prime Minister Modi paid his respects to the “Sengol,” a historical sceptre symbolizing power and authority. He sought blessings from high priests representing various adheenams (spiritual institutions) in Tamil Nadu while holding the holy sceptre.

Amidst the soul-stirring melodies of the “nadaswaram” (a traditional South Indian wind instrument) and the enchanting chants of Vedic mantras, Prime Minister Modi carried the revered “Sengol” in a grand procession. The procession led to the new Parliament building, where the sceptre was installed in a specially designated enclosure on the right side of the Speaker’s chair in the Lok Sabha chamber.

The auspicious ceremony was witnessed by esteemed guests, including Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar, and Jitendra Singh, as well as Chief Ministers from various states and the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), J.P. Nadda.

Acknowledging the collective effort that went into the construction of the new Parliament building, the Prime Minister felicitated some of the workers who played key roles in bringing this architectural marvel to life.
