Kolkata, March 06: PM Narendra Modi embarked on a significant visit to Kolkata, West Bengal, unveiling and laying the foundation stone of various projects worth ₹15,400 crore.

This visit marked his second appearance in West Bengal within five days as part of his extensive tour across 12 states and union territories.

Inauguration of Kolkata Metro’s East-West Corridor: The highlight of PM Modi’s visit was the inauguration of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor.

This marked India’s pioneering step into underwater Metro services, with a 4.8-km stretch built at a cost of ₹4,965 crore.

The corridor includes the deepest Metro station in India, situated at Howrah, 30 meters below ground level. The newly inaugurated section will facilitate connectivity to key areas like the IT hub Salt Lake Sector V.

Flagging off Train Services: During his visit, PM Modi also flagged off additional train services, aiming to enhance urban mobility in Kolkata. These include the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and the Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections, catering to the city’s growing transportation needs.

Dedications to the Nation: Apart from inaugurating the Kolkata Metro section, PM Modi dedicated several other projects to the nation during his visit to Kolkata.

These included the Pune Metro from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi stretch, Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project (Phase IB) from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro station, Agra Metro’s stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar, and the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.

Public Rally in Barasat: Following the project inaugurations, PM Modi addressed a public rally at Barasat in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district, situated near Sandeshkhali, where recent incidents have garnered attention.

This rally served as a platform for PM Modi to interact with the people and discuss key issues ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Recap of PM Modi’s Previous Visit: During his last visit to West Bengal, PM Modi addressed rallies in Hooghly’s Arambagh and Nadia’s Krishnanagar.

He highlighted concerns over the “atrocities on women” in Sandeshkhali and urged the public to ensure the defeat of the TMC government in the upcoming polls.

Additionally, PM Modi held a courtesy meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata as per protocol.

PM Modi’s consecutive visits underscore the significance of West Bengal in the upcoming elections and emphasize the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and urban mobility across the region.
