Bengal, March 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Bangladesh during the Bengal election on March 26-27 will be his first foreign trip in more than a year mainly because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He is visiting to further strengthen the strong bilateral ties between the two neighbouring nations.
PM Modi visit is seen to be crucial as during that time West Bengal will be undergoing an assembly election. West Bengal assembly elections will be held in eight phases between March 27 and April 29 – the longest ever.
PM will be visiting the burial ground of Mujibur Rahman on the completion of the centenary year celebration.
He will also visit Orakandi, a place of worship of the Matua community in the neighbouring country.
We must plan it big since this will be important for Bengal elections and is his first international visit and stay post a year.
Meanwhile, Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on Thursday on a brief visit to discuss Modi’s trip.

Jaishankar is likely to arrive by a special aircraft on Thursday morning and will leave Dhaka the same day.
The Indian External Affairs Minister is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and his Bangladesh counterpart AK Abdul Momen, Alam said.
Bangladesh is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of independence and 50 years of Dhaka-New Delhi diplomatic relations this year.
