Police arrested four persons including an aide of PLA in connection with the recovery of IED along the Assam-Manipur border

Guwahati Nov 27: Police arrested four persons including a woman in connection to the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) that was found in the Lakhipur area in Assam’s Cachar district along the Assam-Manipur border.

The IED was discovered by Cachar district police on November 23 at Jujam near the Lakhipur area under the Cachar district along the Assam-Manipur border and later the bomb squad team had defused it.



Cachar district Superintendent of Police (SP) Ramandeep Kaur said, four persons including a woman who worked as a source for Manipur based insurgent group People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were arrested by police in connection with the detection of the IED.

Ramandeep Kaur further said that as per preliminary investigation it has been found that, the IED was planted in the area to target Manipur officials.

We had registered a case in connection with the detection of the IED and during the investigation, we have arrested four persons including a woman so far. The woman identified as Rakibul Nessa is a source of PLA and the other three arrested persons are residents of the Lakhipur area. Our investigation is on. What the information we have received so far, it could have some connection with some organizations, but we are not able to exactly pinpoint the thing,” Ramandeep Kaur said.

On November 13, Manipur based insurgent groups People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and Manipur Naga People’s Front (MNPF) had jointly ambushed a convoy of Assam Rifles in Manipur’s Churachandpur district along the Indo-Manipur border which resulted in the death of seven persons including a Colonel of Assam Rifles and his wife, 8-year-old son.
