New Delhi, Sept 26: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, a prominent leader from the Indian National Congress, has strongly condemned the inaction of the central government in response to the tragic killing of two Manipur students whose photos went viral on social media. The Congress leader expressed deep concern over the alarming rate of heinous crimes in Manipur and stressed that it is the responsibility of society to ensure the safety of its most vulnerable members, particularly children.

The victims, identified as Phijam Hemjit, aged 20, and Hijam Linthoingambi, aged 17, had been missing since July. Their disappearance and subsequent tragic fate have sent shockwaves across the nation. Priyanka Gandhi took to social media to voice her outrage and sadness over the incident, highlighting the vulnerability of children in regions plagued by ethnic violence.

In her post, she emphasized the urgency of protecting children from such atrocities and lamented that despite the horrifying crimes being perpetrated in Manipur, they continue unchecked. Priyanka Gandhi placed the blame squarely on the central government, asserting that it should be ashamed of its lack of action in the face of such grave incidents.

The Manipur government, responding to the public outcry and mounting pressure, has taken steps to address the situation. A statement from the secretariat of Chief Minister N Biren Singh revealed that the case had been transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). This move signifies the seriousness with which the authorities are treating the matter.

The state police are actively collaborating with central security agencies in their investigation. Their primary objectives are to unravel the circumstances surrounding the students’ disappearance and to identify the individuals responsible for their murder. Furthermore, security forces have initiated a search operation to locate and apprehend the perpetrators.

The tragic incident has raised questions about the overall law and order situation in Manipur and the need for greater protection of its residents, especially children. It has also sparked a broader conversation about the role of the central government in addressing such incidents and ensuring the safety and security of citizens.
