3. The Defence Minister contrasts BJP’s alleged dictatorship accusations with Congress’ historical actions during the Emergency.

New Delhi, April 11: In a firm stance against terrorism, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated India’s willingness to cooperate with Pakistan to combat terrorism, provided Pakistan acknowledges its incapability to do so independently.

Reflecting on the Emergency period under the Indira Gandhi regime, Singh criticized the Congress, recalling his denial of parole even during his mother’s funeral rites, contrasting it with accusations of dictatorship leveled against the BJP.

Singh’s comments follow recent assertions that India would not hesitate to enter Pakistan to neutralize terrorists attempting to escape across the border.

Responding to allegations of “targeted killings” within Pakistan to eliminate terrorists, Singh emphasized India’s commitment to self-defense, stating that while India had never initiated aggression against any nation, it would retaliate against threats to its peace and security.

Pakistan swiftly condemned Singh’s remarks, labeling them provocative and asserting its determination to defend its sovereignty and security, emphasizing the importance of constructive engagement over confrontational rhetoric.
