Agartala, April 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are scheduled to visit Tripura next week to kickstart the campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, according to party sources.

The BJP spokesperson in the state, Subrata Chakraborty, announced on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would address election rallies in Tripura starting from April 17, which marks the last day of campaigning for the first phase of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections.

He mentioned that PM Modi would commence the campaign with a rally in the state capital, Agartala, on the first day of his visit.

Additionally, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to address another election rally in Kumarghat, located in the northern region of the state, on April 15.

Chakraborty noted that several top leaders, including Chief Minister Manik Saha, are actively participating in the poll campaign across Tripura.

He highlighted the increasing support for the BJP, with hundreds of people, including supporters from other parties, joining the saffron brigade regularly across the state.

The BJP spokesperson expressed confidence in the party’s prospects, citing PM Modi’s ‘Abki Baar, 400 paar’ target and indicating the party’s optimism about winning both Lok Sabha seats in Tripura.

Voting is scheduled to take place in Tripura West and Tripura East Parliamentary constituencies on April 19 and April 26, respectively. A total of 18 candidates, including two women, are contesting across the two Lok Sabha seats, with nine candidates from each constituency.

The main contest is expected to be between the BJP and the INDIA bloc, which comprises the Congress, CPI-M, and six other major parties of the nation.
