Dhubri, June 04: Rakibul Hussain of the Indian National Congress (INC) has defeated Mohammed Badruddin Ajmal of the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) by a margin of 9,13,173 votes in the Dhubri constituency of Assam.

Hussain leads with 13,35,435 votes, solidifying a decisive win.

Dhubri is one of the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam and voted in Phase 3 of the 2024 Lok Sabha election on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the schedule for these elections on March 16. According to the ECI, the voter turnout in Dhubri was recorded at 92.08 percent.

This constituency includes 11 Assembly constituencies: Golakganj, Gauripur, Dhubri, Birsing Jarua, Bilasipara, Mankachar, Jaleshwar, Goalpara East, Srijangram, Mandia, and Chenga.

The prominent candidates in the 2024 general elections were Zabed Islam from the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Rakibul Hussain from the INC.

In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Badruddin Ajmal of the AIUDF defeated Abu Taher Bepari of the INC by a margin of 2,26,258 votes.

Similarly, in the 2014 elections, Ajmal secured a significant victory, defeating Wazed Ali Choudhury of the INC by a margin of 2,29,730 votes.
