London, May 19: According to The Sunday Times Rich List, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty saw their personal wealth surge by £122 million over the past year.

Their combined net worth rose from £529 million in 2023 to £651 million, primarily attributed to Murty’s ownership stake in Infosys, the Indian IT giant her father co-founded. This places them ahead of King Charles in terms of wealth.

Ranked 245th on the list, Sunak and Murty are the wealthiest couple to reside at No. 10 Downing Street.

Their fortune now exceeds that of King Charles, who saw his personal wealth climb from £600 million to £610 million this year.

In 2022, the Sunaks were reported to have surpassed the late Queen Elizabeth II in wealth, whose estimated fortune exceeded £370 million at the time.

This revelation comes amid ongoing concerns about the cost of living, highlighted by recent data from the Trussell Trust showing a record distribution of 3.1 million food parcels in the past year.

Sunak, who is navigating the country through a crisis sparked by rising living expenses, has a background as a former hedge fund manager, while Murty is notably the wealthiest member of the Sunak family.

Sunak’s income primarily stems from his roles as an MP and Prime Minister, with only a small portion—6.5%—attributed to investments. His MP salary amounts to £91,346, while his PM salary is £80,807.

Meanwhile, the top 10 wealthiest individuals on the list include notable names such as Gopi Hinduja, Sir Leonard Blavatnik, the Reuben family, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Sir James Dyson, the Swire family, Idan Ofer, Lakshmi Mittal, the Weston family, and John Fredriksen and family, with fortunes ranging from £12.8 billion to £37.2 billion.
