New Delhi, Jan 25: For the first time in the history of the Republic Day parade, a group of 100 women artists adorned in the traditional costumes of their respective states will lead the procession, showcasing the themes of ‘Vikshit Bharat’ (Developed India) and ‘India: Mother of Democracy’ (Bharat: Loktantra Ki Jannee).

These talented women will play traditional instruments such as conch shells, drums, and others, adding a unique cultural dimension to the grand event.

In another historic inclusion, a contingent of 1,500 women artists from 30 states will showcase a vibrant display of folk and classical dances.

This initiative aims to celebrate the rich cultural diversity of India, emphasizing the significant role women play in preserving and promoting traditional art forms.

As part of the cultural extravaganza, around 1,900 sarees representing each state will be exhibited on the Kartavya path. This symbolic gesture symbolizes the unity of the nation through the diverse fabric of Indian culture.

Minister of State for Culture Meenakashi Lekhi shared these exciting developments during a press conference at the National Media Centre in New Delhi.

Addressing the media, Govind Mohan, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, emphasized the government’s commitment to fostering a more inclusive representation of India’s cultural richness.

He highlighted the shift towards showcasing a broader spectrum of artistic and cultural expressions during Republic Day and Republic Week celebrations.

While maintaining the traditional focus on displaying the country’s military capabilities, there is now a concerted effort to integrate and celebrate India’s diverse cultural heritage.

The cultural presentation during the Republic Day celebrations aims to deepen the connection between different regions of the country and effectively convey the message of “Unity in Diversity.”

This aligns with the government’s motto of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat,’ emphasizing the strength and beauty that emerges from the unity of a diverse nation.

The move reflects a holistic approach to governance, acknowledging the pivotal role culture plays in shaping the identity of the nation.
