Imphal, March 20: Alleged members of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I-M) reportedly fired shots at Alfred Kangnam Arthur, the Congress Party’s Lok Sabha election candidate, during a meeting in Teinem village, Ukhrul district, Manipur.

Fortunately, Arthur escaped unharmed from the incident, which took place around 2 pm during a village-level consultative meeting organized for the upcoming election.

Expressing strong condemnation, PCC President K Meghachandra questioned the feasibility of conducting elections in the state amidst such violence.

The police confirmed the incident, stating that the firing occurred just before the meeting was set to begin. Despite the gunfire, the meeting proceeded as planned, with approximately 400 people in attendance.

This incident follows a similar one on March 18, where unidentified individuals disrupted an interaction program at TK Woodland Resort, Shirui, by firing multiple gunshots. However, the public continued with the programs on both occasions.
