Imphal, Oct 20: A significant cache of arms, explosives, and equipment was discovered during a joint search operation conducted by district commandos in Imphal East, Manipur.

This operation, involving the district commando Imphal East, Sagolmang police station, and units of the 2/8 Gurkha Regiment, targeted areas in Kakching, Bishnupur, and Churachandpur districts, with a focus on Waken, Shantipur, and Khamenlok ridges under Sagolmang Police Station.

The search operation yielded a total of 36 firearms, including high-powered weapons such as AK-47/56 rifles, improvised rifles, carbine machine guns, lathode launchers, and revolvers.

Furthermore, the security forces recovered 1,615 rounds of ammunition and explosives, which included INSAS Rifles, hand grenades, detonators, and locally manufactured pistols. Additionally, 132 pieces of equipment were also found during the operation.

This search operation was conducted due to the region’s vulnerability, particularly in light of the violent incidents that have occurred since May 3, 2023.
