Gangtok, Jan 18: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang commenced his journey to Guwahati on January 18, traveling aboard the Vande Bharat Express.

His destination is the North Eastern Council (NEC) Plenary meeting scheduled to take place in Shillong on January 19.

The NEC, a vital regional planning body encompassing eight northeastern states, will convene at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah presiding as the chairperson.

This meeting holds significance, gathering Governors and Chief Ministers from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura—members of the NEC.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah serves as the ex-officio chairperson, and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Minister G Kishan Reddy is the vice-chairman.

Reddy, Minister of State (DoNER) B.L. Verma, and senior officers from DoNER and NITI Aayog will participate in the plenary.

The agenda includes releasing the NEC Year Book by Minister Amit Shah. The welcome address will be delivered by NEC Secretary K Moses Chalai, and activities undertaken by DoNER will be briefed by DoNER Secretary Chanchal Kumar during the plenary meeting.
