New Delhi, Feb 12: In a fiery statement, BJP leader and Union Minister Smriti Irani criticized Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging her involvement in the Sandeshkhali controversy and accusing her of being complicit in Hindu genocide.

Irani accused Banerjee of allowing rapes of married Hindu women in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) office, citing incidents reported by women in Sandeshkhali.

She claimed that women in Sandeshkhali had revealed how TMC members would identify and abduct young married Hindu women, subjecting them to rape, and emphasized the need for action against such atrocities.

Irani condemned the attack on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers in North 24 Parganas district during a raid on TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan’s premises, alleging Banerjee’s involvement in compromising the dignity of marginalized communities for political gain.

She raised questions about Sheikh Shahjahan’s whereabouts and criticized the imposition of Section 144 in Sandeshkhali, limiting the ability of affected women to speak out.

The Sandeshkhali area in Bengal’s 24 Paraganas district has witnessed tensions following demands for the arrest of TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan over alleged rape incidents.

Earlier attempts by BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and other MLAs to visit Sandeshkhali were thwarted, with authorities citing potential law and order issues.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Shahjahan sought anticipatory bail from a special CBI court in response to ED summons, further escalating the ongoing controversy.
