Imphal, Sept 20: Manipur Police provided details about the recovery of sophisticated arms and ammunition from five armed individuals who were arrested during a search operation. The police have been conducting extensive operations in both the Valley and Hill Districts of Manipur to apprehend individuals involved in the ongoing community crisis.

On September 11, the Manipur Police recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition in the Kholmum area of Churachandpur district. The recovered items included an M4 Assault Rifle, two 9mm Pistols (Pietro Beretta), two country-made 9mm Pistols, a country-made 9mm Carbine Machine Gun, two Single Barrel Rifles, two country-made improvised Mortars (Pump), eight 38mm Rubber Bullets, a Kenwood Walkie Talkie, and a Chinese Walkie Talkie (Baofeng).

The press note from the Manipur Police emphasized the genuine efforts made by security forces in these recoveries. Additionally, regular inspections of Soo camps in the hill districts have been carried out to verify the presence of cadres in the camps. On September 18 and 19, 2023, combined security forces, including the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), local police, and Assam Rifles, jointly inspected four Soo camps in CCPur and one SoO camp in Kangpokpi.

In the past month, the armed miscreants have committed crimes in various districts of Manipur, with a breakdown as follows:

A. Imphal East District: 9 incidents

B. Imphal West District: 5 incidents

C. Thoubal District: 3 incidents

D. Kakching District: 1 incident

E. Bishnupur District: 7 incidents
