Patna, Jan 26: Nitish Kumar, the veteran leader of the Janata Dal (United), is anticipated to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of the JD(U)-BJP coalition government in Bihar on January 28, as per sources.

Sushil Modi, a seasoned BJP politician, is expected to assume the role of the Deputy Chief Minister.

Upon hearing about the potential development, Sushil Modi commented on the situation, stating that closed doors could open in politics, which he described as a “game of possibilities.”

However, he refrained from providing further insights on the matter.

This development unfolds against the backdrop of political upheaval in Bihar, marked by strained relations within the current alliance between JD(U) and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The tension escalated this week with the posthumous conferral of the Bharat Ratna upon socialist icon Karpoori Thakur by the BJP-led Centre.

Adding to the political friction, Nitish Kumar’s remark on ‘parivarvaad’ (dynasty politics) received a sharp rebuke from Lalu Yadav’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, in a tweet that has since been deleted.

Meanwhile, sources from the Congress have informed that they are closely monitoring the situation.

They expressed scepticism about Nitish Kumar’s potential return to the BJP fold, particularly regarding the positions of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan and Rashtriya Lok Janata Dal chief Upender Kushwaha.

The Congress sources pointed out that the current Assembly speaker is from their side (RJD).

In response to the unfolding events, Upender Kushwaha stated that his party would carry forward the “legacy of Karpoori Thakur” and strive to “reject the agreement made with RJD.”

Addressing the ongoing political crisis in Bihar, Upendra Kushwaha acknowledged Nitish Kumar’s dissatisfaction with his current situation.

However, he questioned whether the JD(U) would remain aligned with the BJP post-Lok Sabha elections if an alliance was formed.

Ongoing discussions are suggesting that Nitish Kumar may rejoin the NDA alliance, but uncertainty remains regarding the JD(U)’s continued association with the saffron party after the parliamentary polls.

Amidst the political turbulence, Chirag Paswan reportedly postponed all his Republic Day-related programs, and the LJP announced a significant meeting with the party’s national and state officials under the leadership of Chirag Paswan.

Earlier in the day, sources indicated that a decision on Nitish Kumar’s potential return to the BJP-led NDA could be expected within the next two to three days. The cabinet distribution is anticipated to mirror the structure of the previous JD(U)-BJP government, according to sources.

Nitish Kumar is reportedly dissatisfied with both his current coalition partner, Lalu Yadav’s RJD, and the INDIA bloc member, Congress. His discontent is fueled by failed seat-sharing negotiations within the INDIA bloc in Bihar and other states where regional parties have joined the alliance.

Additionally, Nitish Kumar believes that Congress’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ led by Rahul Gandhi, is solely aimed at benefiting the grand old party and not the Opposition-backed INDIA alliance as Lok Sabha elections draw near.
