Arunachal raped

Itanagar, Oct 15: In a harrowing incident that unfolded in the quiet village of Taloni in Lower Dibang Valley district, Arunachal Pradesh, a specially-abled woman was raped and sustained grievous injuries after a vicious attack with a machete by a man named Kyakang Warang.

The disturbing episode occurred on the evening of October 4, when the accused, Warang, entered the victim’s house under the pretence of seeking shelter from the rains. He later made his way to the labor camp where he was stationed.

Warang, originally a resident of Warang village in East Kameng district, had arrived in Taloni village just a few days before perpetrating the heinous crime. He was part of a laborer’s team that had come for forest clearing work.

A relative of the victim, upon discovering the dire situation, narrated her shock and distress at the scene she encountered. When she returned home and found the accused napping inside the house, her fear and concern grew as the victim was alone in the house at the time. The room was in a state of utter devastation, and the victim lay there, injured and in shock.

The relative described the gruesome sight she encountered: the victim was covered in blood, and she had suffered a deep gash near her mouth, a result of the machete attack by her rapist. She had not only been raped but had also been subjected to brutal violence. When she attempted to escape and hide behind some banana plants, the assailant ruthlessly destroyed them with his machete and captured her.

Furthermore, the room bore the scars of the man’s violent rampage, with all her clothes and household items ruined, including the fireplace. Adding to the distressing situation, the relative’s husband was not present at the time, and due to the lack of network coverage in their village area, she couldn’t call for help.

In a display of collective vigilance and community spirit, the victim’s relative raised an alarm and sought assistance, which prompted villagers to respond promptly and detain the accused, even as he attempted to flee the scene. Initially, the villagers contemplated handling the matter according to their customary laws, but some insisted on involving the police.
