Srinagar, Jan 01: For the first time in recent years in Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar’s Lal Chowk witnessed grand New Year celebrations organized by the Department of Tourism.
The iconic Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) area was the venue for a musical event, attracting a large gathering of locals and tourists alike.
As the clock struck midnight, the atmosphere at Ghanta Ghar became festive, with people dancing and reveling in the joyous celebration. The event marked a departure from previous years, bringing a new vibrancy to Lal Chowk on New Year’s Eve.

Taranum, a resident, expressed excitement about the unique celebration, highlighting that such events are customary in Jammu and Kashmir, but Lal Chowk hosted them for the first time. She emphasized the symbolic significance of the event, with Lal Chowk adorned like a bride, reflecting the desire for peace in the region.

Tourists visiting the Kashmir Valley were pleasantly surprised by the festivities at Srinagar’s Clock Tower area.
Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner and CEO of Srinagar Smart City Ltd., Athar Aamir Khan, described the occasion as unprecedented, emphasizing the transformative impact of Srinagar Smart City projects on the city’s landscape.
The celebrations extended beyond Srinagar, with Gulmarg town in Baramulla district witnessing New Year’s Eve festivities featuring laser shows and dance performances.
The vibrant and joyful celebrations in Srinagar and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir echoed the festive spirit seen in cities across the country as people bid farewell to the old year and welcomed the new one with enthusiasm and excitement.
