The Kashmir Files box office day 13 collection: Film crosses ₹200 cr, is highest-grossing Hindi release post pandemic

India, March 24: The Kashmir Files slowed down in its second week but surpassed the 200 billion mark. The film’s earnings were around Rs 10 million as of Wednesday and has beaten the lifetime collection of the earlier post-pandemic blockbuster, Sooryavanshi to become the top-grossing Hindi film after the pandemic.

The Kashmir Files is based on the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri pandits from Jammu and Kashmir. Written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film stars Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, Pallavi Joshi, Puneet Issar and others.

Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office figures of the film on Twitter. He tweeted, “#TheKashmirFiles crosses 200 cr mark … Also crosses *lifetime biz* of #Sooryavanshi… Becomes HIGHEST GROSSING *HINDI* FILM [pandemic era]… [Week 2] Fri 19.15 cr, Sat 24.80 cr, Sun 26.20 cr, Mon 12.40 cr, Tue 10.25 cr, Wed 10.03 cr. Total: 200.13 cr. #India biz.”

The success of The Kashmir Files appears to have hampered the anticipated box office response for Akshay Kumar’s latest release, Bachchhan Paandey. The film has grossed around 41 million rupees in five days.

The film has also sparked a nationwide debate, as in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Amid a call for the reopening of cases linked to the killing of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s, Jammu and Kashmir Police Director-General (DGP) Dilbag Singh said on Tuesday that the force would definitely investigate if there will be “something specific“.

Earlier, Aamir Khan had said that all Indians should see the film. He said at a press conference during RRR’s promotions, “This film touched the emotions of everyone who believes in humanity, and that’s wonderful. I will definitely watch the film and I am very happy about its success. I feel this is a sad time in India, people should pay close attention and remember.”
