Northeast, Feb 1: A trough brings southwesterly winds into Northeast India to produce rain or snow with isolated thunderstorms.
A notable weather event in the week is an active western disturbance that will traverse over northern portions of the subcontinent from Wednesday to this weekend.
This western disturbance will bring southwesterly winds providing moisture from the Arabian Sea and also interact with low-level southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal.
- Minimum temperatures are below normal by 4-6°C over most parts of Assam and Meghalaya.
- Maximum temperatures are below normal by 2-4°C over most parts of Northeast India.
- Dense to very dense fog in isolated pockets over Uttarakhand, terai area of East Uttar
Pradesh, Punjab, Bihar and Assam & Meghalaya.
Rainfall Forecast & Warnings:
- Isolated to scattered light/moderate rainfall very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam
& Meghalaya and Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura during 31st January to 03rd with
increased activity on 01st February 2022. - Due to interaction between mid-tropospheric south-westerlies associated with the
above Western Disturbance and lower level southeasterlies from the Bay of Bengal:-
- Scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall with
thunderstorm/lightning likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim on
03rd & 04th and over Assam & Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram &
Tripura on 04th & 05th February 2022.

- Gradual rise by 3-5°C in minimum temperatures likely over most parts of Northwest,
Central, East & Northeast India till 03rd February and fall by 3-4°C thereafter. - Dense Fog conditions in isolated pockets in night/morning hours very likely over
Terai belt of East Uttar Pradesh during next 24 hours and over west Assam &
Meghalaya during next 2 days; over Gangetic West Bengal on 01st & 02nd February and
over Odisha on 03rd February.
