Aizawl, April 04: Mizoram was struck by a thunderstorm and hailstorm that caused damage to over 2500 homes, churches, schools, and government buildings between last Sunday and Tuesday.
Also, a woman lost her life in the incident, according to state disaster management and rehabilitation department officials.
In addition to the human cost, the storm has left a trail of destruction, with fifteen churches, seventeen schools, eleven relief camps, eleven Anganwadi centres, and numerous government buildings among the affected structures
Over 800 structures,795 dwelling houses, six churches, and eight Anganwadi centres, have been reported destroyed in this district alone.
632 dwelling houses were affected and significantly damaged in Aizawl district.

State Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister K Sapdanga said that the government will assist the affected people as permissible under the existing laws despite the election model code of conduct being in place.
He said that the state government has sought permission from the Election Commission and Chief Minister Lalduhoma has also informed the poll panel about the disaster.
